Since mid-2022 I’ve been busy with making music rather than just playing it. After months of toiling away at Logic Pro I’m ready to release a bunch of electronic tunes under the name Dodgy Pixel (I’ll save the story behind that name for another time).
Back in June of 2022 I made the decision to commit to working on some tracks. I set the goal of getting at least one track “finished” every month for the rest of the year. When I say finished I don’t mean 100% ready for release. More “finished” to the point where I know what the track is going to be and what needs to be done to get it over the line. Fast forward to January 2023 and I have six tracks ranging from 70-90% ready (plus plenty more ‘rough sketches’ that need more work). Since then I’ve been focusing on finessing and mastering each track prior to releasing it. First off the conveyor belt is ‘Nascent’.
Yes, the title “Nascent’ sounds VERY pretentious, but it is fitting.
I’ve spent a good decade procrastinating about making music, starting and scrapping various projects over the years (bar the odd bootleg here and there). After all that I’ve finally managed to get some stuff together that I want to put out there. It really does feel like the beginning of something.
‘Nascent’ kicks off with mellow synths and some old skool sounds before making way for a rolling breakbeat and a chunk of 303. It sets the scene of what’s to come with this music project, tapping into house, breakbeat, rave, jungle and all kinds of electronic goodness.
