Another week, another selection of rave-tinged tunes for you to check out and maybe even buy.
As usual there’s another free download at the bottom of this post along with a link to a Dodgy Pixel playlist I’ve slowly been putting together over the last few years. 120+ tunes clocking in at 18+ hours, I hadn’t realised that it had so many tunes packed into it.
Coco Bryce – You Care Because They Do

Coco Bryce is a go to producer for playful breakbeat vibes. Released on his Myor label, this two track EP features Coco on the A-side and Tommy the Cat on the B-side. Both tracks are worth a listen.
Hailing from the Netherlands, Coco Bryce has spent decades dabbling in various genres such as hardcore and hip-hop but it’s his skill of turning out quality breakbeat tunes that’s become his forte.
Break – Headshot (Alibi Remix)

If you’ve been reading my previous Dodgy Pick posts you might have noticed that I tend to drop in a few atmospheric tunes here and there. Alibi’s remix of “Headshot” by Break starts off in that vein but it’s all a ruse as the track builds into a frantic DnB monster.
Personally I gravitate towards the more Breakbeat style of Jungle but every now again something a bit more “jump-up” will grab my attention and that’s exactly what “Headshot” has done.
RAVETRX – A Little Bit of RAVETRX

I’m an absolute sucker for a cheeky bootleg and RAVETRX has just dropped a supremely cheeky one indeed. Taking the garage classic by DJ Luck & MC Neat and nicely sliding it into a bass heavy jungle template.
This is a sure-fire tune for spicing up a DJ set and setting things off.
Myriad – Sub Level 2

If you like “Headshot” posted above then “Sub Level 2” is also going to be worthy of your attention. The atmospherics are even more grandiose in this one and again things build into a crescendo of low slung synth basslines and tighter than tight beats.
This mid-point breakdown drops in some eastern-tinged vocal samples before the bass drops backs in to drive things along again.
Blame – Music Takes You(Fear-E’s Tenner Dunt Remix) – Free Download

This week’s free download is another one of them bootlegs. Fear-E is a Glasgow based DJ & Producer with an extensive (and diverse) discography on Bandcamp.
Here he is taking on the classic “Music Takes You” by Blame. Remixing (or bootlegging) a beloved tune can be a risky move but Fear-E is up to the task with a more “housey” beat and a nice chunky bass synth providing a solid backbone to the whole thing.
And that piano break? Yes it’s there, and it’s as good as ever.
That’s your lot for this week. Take a look at my previous Dodgy Picks to see what tunes I’ve previously recommended.
I’ve also got a Dodgy Pixel playlist on streaming platforms. Packed with at least 15 hours of back to back bangers. The most up to date version is on Apple Music. There’s also a slightly more neglected version on Spotify.
If you have a tune on BandCamp that’s along the lines of Breakbeat / Rave / Drum n Bass / Old Skool / Techno etc. and you’d like to submit it for a possible recommendation, feel free to drop me a line.
