It’s another round of Dodgy Picks where I wax lyrical about the tunes I’m enjoying this week and share a “free” download.
Only four tunes to share in this post rather than the regular five but they’re good ‘uns so get stuck in.
Submarine – Weaver Walk

“Weaver Walk” is the fourth track on the “Mask Off” EP by Submarine, aka German producer and DJ Jonas Briere. All four tracks on this DnB release are quality pieces of works but Weaver Walk edges it out for me as my favourite. There’s a real dense quality to the production (in a good way) but there’s also room for the beat and the bass to cut through.
Son & Kravitz – Forgive Me

Deep In The Jungle records are a quality source of tunes and this two track release from Son & Kravitz is another one to add to the list. Forgive Me is built around a high pitched vocal singing the title line. From the atmospheric intro the tune then kicks into gear with a crisp brekbeat to propel things along. The B-side feels like a lighter track thanks to the piano line in the intro and the bouncier bassline. Both tracks are a tight few minutes of DnB that would nicely slide into a DnB set.
Subjects – Take Me Up

Speaking of record labels Deep Jungle are where it’s at. As well as releasing awesome music they also put out some absolutely gorgeous looking vinyl (sadly way of out my budget). In the producer’s own words, “Take Me Up” features rolling chords, pads and uplifting vocals alongside the “Do the Do” break”. Siren on the B-side is also a stormer featuring the ever reliable Amen-break which is chopped up to excellent effect.
Criteria – Anemoia (Free Download)

This week’s “Name your price” download comes from Four Corners Music a drum and bass label based in the South East of the uk.
Anemoia is a “light-touch” of a DnB tune (compared to the other stuff I’ve been sharing on here). Skittering beats, airy sounds and a cut up vocal that reminds me of early Disclosure. In a set it’ll work as a real good “breather” moment between the heavy hitters.
Be sure to check out other tunes I’ve recommended, take a look at my previous Dodgy Picks.
If you have a tune on BandCamp that’s along the lines of Breakbeat / Rave / Drum n Bass / Old Skool / Techno etc. and you’d like to submit it for a possible recommendation, feel free to drop me a line.
You can also find my “Dodgy Pixel” playlist on streaming platforms. Packed with at least 15 hours of tunes I’ve been enjoying over the last few years. The most up to date version is on Apple Music. There’s also a slightly more neglected version on Spotify.
You can also follow me online via various social networks (apart from stinky ass Twitter).
