Dodgy Picks: Leniz, Shadow Child, DJ Haus, Rico Tubbs

Dodgy Picks is a little bit later than usual. I thought it best to stay out of the way of Bandcamp Friday and the crazy hustle & bustle that usually ensues (seriously, my inbox is drowning in Bandcamp emails).

This week it’s another three tunes, one of which is a name your price download (at the time writing that is). If you like these you can also check out the previous stuff I’ve been shouting about for the last few months.

Leniz – Declare Peace E.P.

Leniz - Declare Peace EP cover

“Declare Peace” by Leniz is a breakbeat chugger with an easy-going flow. Filled with brass sounds, strings and ethereal female vocals, it’s a really good tune to pick for a warm-up set.

Leniz is a Dutch, producer who is only 22 years old but is already 10 years deep into his career. As per the hype blurb on Bandcamp: “Deep, atmospheric, funky and thought provoking. If you love soulful liquid drum and bass then you will love all this ep has to offer!

Shadow Child & DJ Haus – 303 In The Midst (Bassline Mutationz)

Rhythm Force Vol 4 cover

It was recently 303 day so what better time for Shadow Child and DJ Haus to continue their Rhythm Force series with a 303 lead banger that is dripping with old skool vibes.

The full EP releases on the 14th Mar (a week on from the time of writing this). Interestingly, the record label UTTU has a subscription offer where you can get the entire back catalogue for a super low price.

Rico Tubbs – Innocence (Name Your Price Download)

If you like Speed Garage and bootlegs, then Rico Tubbs is your guy. I first discovered him via a bootleg remix of “Inner City Life” on Soundcloud.

Here he has taken the Nero tune “Innocence” and injected it with some Speed Garage gusto. Good times all the way. Not sure how long this will stay “free” so don’t sleep on it. As well as the bootlegs Rico also has a number of original tunes in his discography. Check out “Wicked Man” on his Unity EP. Yas!

Be sure to check out other tunes I’ve recommended, take a look at my previous Dodgy Picks.

There’s also all the stuff I’ve made on my Discography page including my most recent release “Ignition Sequence”.

If you have a tune on BandCamp that’s along the lines of Breakbeat / Rave / Drum n Bass / Old Skool / Techno etc. and you’d like to submit it for a possible recommendation, feel free to drop me a line.

You can also follow me online via various social networks (apart from stinky ass Twitter).
